Work, Practice and Training
My chief strength is my knowledge of colour coming from a long line of lithographers. My father was involved in the setting up of the Department of Lithography in Guinness’s in the fifties and, upon early retirement, became a lithographic technician at the National College of Art. I also studied there, but chose to travel, starting in Italy as an au pair at the age of 20. It was a long journey back to practicing my craft. Rearing my family and involvement in my husband’s clothing business became my life, until I shifted focus back to painting. I now work mainly in my studio in Rathfarnham.
My training at Dundrum College between 1994 and 1995 as a full-time art student was life changing. It was a wonderful insight into various media: print-making, textiles, life drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and graphic design. I was very lucky to have great tutors who were also established artists. Having obtained my qualifications, there was no turning back. I’m currently attending the National College of Art & Design furthering my studies into watercolours as a CEAD student.
